Programs for Students with Bachelor's Degrees in Other Fields

	Students at the Center for Speech, Language and Hearing at Towson University conducted over 800 hearing evaluations last year.

Each year the department enrolls students who earned their undergraduate degrees in other fields before finding the Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology profession. The department offers two options for returning students with a completed bachelor's degree. The options are based on the student's undergraduate GPA.

Option 1: Admission into Graduate School

Students with an undergraduate grade point average of 3.5 or higher can apply directly to the Graduate School for admission into our 3-year master's degree program in Speech-Language Pathology, or 5-year doctoral degree program in Audiology. Applicants must submit transcripts, GRE scores and 3 letters of reference by the January admissions deadline. Students must complete their bachelor's degree before starting courses in the program. Both programs condense the undergraduate course sequence into an intensive first year of full-time study. In order to move students through the program quickly, the undergraduate courses are taken out of sequence. Students must maintain a 3.5 GPA at the end of the first year to continue in the program. In the second year, students move into graduate-level courses and take them in the same sequence as other graduate students. The Speech-Language Pathology 3-year graduate program is limited to 10 students each year. The Audiology 5-year graduate program is limited to 5 students each year. Option 2: Admission into the Undergraduate Second Bachelor's Degree Program

Students who do not meet the 3.5 GPA standard for our Graduate Programs are eligible to apply to our Second Bachelor's Degree Program. Admission is limited to 5-10 students per year based on undergraduate GPA. Second Bachelor's Degree students are admitted directly to the undergraduate SPPA major and complete their undergraduate courses in 2 years. After completing the degree, students can apply to graduate school at Towson University or elsewhere. Applications are due by April 30 each year. Admissions decisions are made in early June. Students who have not completed their first undergraduate degree at the time of admission will not be considered.
