Illustration Track
Using imaginative techniques of pictorial representation and a unique visual signature, illustrators convey ideas that intrigue, excite, move, or inform, and may also interpret political and societal issues, moral concerns and examine the meaning of events. Illustration has a significant cultural role, both fostering and reflecting current taste, while promulgating the vocabulary, imagery and ideas expressed in avant-garde art to the general public.
The Illustration track is closely aligned with the Graphic Design and the Digital Art and Design tracks and concentrates on effective communication, conceptual abilities, and proficiency in media skills.
Students electing the Illustration track are encouraged to pursue the creation of a distinctive style. They learn Illustration principles, including compositional and textual layout and technical skills in a variety of media, while developing creative conceptual talents in the formulation of ideas and problem solving. This is helpful in learning to convey a message in an original visual language. Students are challenged by a wide variety of assignments that reflect the ever-changing field of contemporary illustration.
Students in the Traditional Media option utilize a range of classical art skills. Students in the Digital Media option become familiar with computer software to produce digital imagery. Students obtain professional knowledge that can be transferred to many areas of application.
Students should meet with their advisor to determine recommended course sequence based on individual needs and course availability.
