Graphic Design Concentration (BFA)

Screening

Students interested in the Graphic Design concentration must undergo a portfolio and transcript screening, generally during the sophomore year or fourth term. Course, GPA and portfolio requirements are specified below. Please contact the Graphic Design Area Coordinators with any questions at jring@towson.edu or ntootoonchi@towson.edu.

Graphic Design Screening Procedures

1. A minimum GPA of 2.67 in the Art + Design major.

2. The following courses or equivalent transferred courses must be completed by the end of term in which the student applies to the Graphic Design option:
All First Level Foundations courses, ART 217, ART 219/321,
ART 234 or 235, ART 317, ART 355 and ART 365.

3. To be considered in the screening process, students must submit the following during the delivery date and time: a transcript (official or unofficial) and an approx. 18 in. x 24 in. closed portfolio. The portfolio must be labeled with your assigned screening number. The portfolio must include: two pieces from ART 103, ART 211 and ART 234 or 235; and three pieces from ART 219/321, ART 317 and ART 355 (minimum of 15 pieces, maximum of 18 pieces). Each piece must be labeled on the back: include assigned screening number (available at Graphic Design Advising Session), class number, class name, semester/year class was taken, and school (for transfer students). If your name appears on any project, cover it with a sticky note.

4. Students must pass screening before taking ART 417. After screening has occurred, students who have not passed screening will be removed from ART 417 in the following term and students who have passed will be added.

5. Only the highest ranking candidates will be selected. The number selected will be on a space- available basis.

6. Students will be notified of the results via their Towson email.

Late applications will not be considered.
