Towson University Daily Digest Attention Seniors - What is that Green Ribbon for?

GRADUATION PLEDGE 2007

The green ribbon included with your graduation materials symbolizes the national Graduation Pledge that states "I pledge to explore and take into account the social and environmental consequences of any job I consider and will try to improve these aspects of any organizations for which I work."

The pledge, offered at over 100 universities across the country, is voluntary and graduates determine for themselves what they consider to be socially and environmentally responsible. The pledge and green ribbon to wear at graduation symbolize a commitment to better the world in which we live, no matter what jobs we have.

This week, May 7-12, the University Store will be giving out information about the pledge, a "pledge card," and a green ribbon for graduating seniors who are picking up their caps and gowns. Take the pledge and don't forget to wear your green ribbon at commencement! There will be a 2007 Graduation Pledge scroll outside of the bookstore for those participating to sign, as well as a place to leave contact information if you would like to receive information from the Graduation Pledge Alliance about available resources for carrying out the pledge. The scroll will be displayed in the University Union following commencement.

Check out www.graduationpledge.org for more information and resources regarding how to carry out the pledge while job searching and once on the job.
