Services and Resources for Faculty at Towson University

Center for Instructional Advancement and Technology (CIAT)

CIAT supports Towson University’s commitment to excellence in teaching by designing curriculum, developing learning strategies, creating course materials and implementing new technology.

  • Blackboard

    Towson's online learning management system for fully online, hybrid and web-supported classes. Instructors can use as few or as many of the available tools as needed.

Media creation for faculty and staff for academic use. Includes video production, web design, graphic design and poster printing.

Guide faculty through the process of improving and creating courses to help students learn and improve instruction.

Presents information and workshops from faculty innovators who are using emerging or established technologies to enhance educational experiences.

Offers classroom capture without obstruction to teaching and learning. A video of the class, as well as the professor’s written notes and presentations, can be streamed live or archived and viewed at a later time on the web.

Presentations and workshops by faculty who are using creative teaching techniques, methods and learning activities in the design of their courses.

CIAT sponsors TU’s College Pass membership to Sloan-C which gives faculty the opportunity to connect with others involved in online higher education through publications, workshops and conferences. There are a limited number of seats which are free and fully-online.

Provides technical support and training for WebEx, an online web-conferencing application.

Computers (4 PCs and 2 MACs) and peripherals (scanners, printers, etc.) are available for faculty use.

OTS Training

OTS Training offers a variety of self-help documents, movie tutorials and workshops (open enrollment and customized) on technology topics for faculty, staff and students.

Register for free training on a variety of topics including the Microsoft Office Suite, SharePoint Designer, SharePoint sites, Movie Maker and much more.

Over 400 self-help documents and over 50 movie tutorials available which guide you through different features of various software applications.

  • Customized & One-on-One Training

    OTS Training will customize your training session and bring the training to your department or offer one hour one-on-one training sessions on a specific topic.

An extensive online software training tutorial video library. This video collection is available 24/7 on such packages as Dreamweaver, Photoshop and Flash for both PC and Mac.

Student Computing Services (SCS)

SCS is a multifaceted technology support service available to all Towson University students.

    • Service Desk
      The Service Desk provides technical support and troubleshooting assistance to students experiencing problems or seeking technology advice.

    •  
    • Computer Lab
      The Lab offers 59 PCs, 4 iMacs and pay-for-print services, with on-site support staff.

    • Learning Center and Studio
      Training and consultative services, multimedia collaboration, recording studio, rehearsal space, workshops and large format printing.

    • Camera Loan
      SCS maintains a collection of digital still and video cameras, available to students, faculty and staff.
  • Faculty Services
    Scantron test scoring, StudentVoice (online survey platform) consultation, and camera loan (see above).

Client Services

Serves faculty and staff through telephone, e-mail, Remote Control Assistance, walk-in and on-site support. Provides software and hardware service, manages the Computer Trade-Up Program and assists with the integration of all TU hardware (printers, scanners, laptop computers, smart phones and PDA’s).

Comprehensive support for campus PC’s and MAC’s. Also, support for Net ID.

Provides design and planning services for classroom technology projects (new construction and renovations). In cooperation with Cook Library’s Media Resource Services, assists in the support of smart classrooms.

When telephone or remote-control based support is not practical, on-site support to offices is provided by appointment.
