University Fleet Services
Fleet Services provides assistance to university employees and student groups wishing to rent a vehicle for official university business.
University Vehicles
Individuals with valid driver’s licenses may rent a university-owned vehicle on a first-come, first-served basis to travel within a 300-mile radius of the university. Cars, eight-passenger vans and 10-passenger vans are available, though individuals wishing to drive a 10-passenger van must complete a Fleet Services training class prior to renting the vehicle. Individuals wishing to travel beyond 300 miles of the university can arrange a non-university rental vehicle with Fleet Services.
Rates
The cost of renting a university car, 8-passenger van or 10-passenger van is below. This fee includes re-fueling at the Baltimore County gas station and toll charges for most Maryland toll plazas. It does not include the cost of renting a vehicle driver, which can be provided – if available – for $25/hour with a four-hour minimum, plus $.80/mile.
| Cars | $.54/mile |
| 8-Passenger Vans | $.72/mile |
| 10-Passenger Vans | $.96/mile |
Gas and Toll Charges
Each university vehicle is equipped with a Universal PHH Gas and Roadside Assistance card, a Baltimore County gas card and an E-Z pass transponder. Instructions on using these materials can be found in each vehicle’s information guide.
Budget/Enterprise Rental Services
Fleet Services will arrange rental vehicles for employees and student groups traveling beyond a 300-mile radius of the university or when a university vehicle is unavailable. Rental arrangements for all commercial vehicles should be processed through Fleet Services by completing and submitting a request form. Due to rental company policies, some age restrictions may apply. Please note that university employees renting cars for university business should elect not to purchase additional insurance on the vehicle – the liability of vehicles rented to the state is covered by the Maryland Tort Claims Act.
