General Information
The Materiel Management Service Request (MMSR) is the required method of communicating to us that you are planning an office move; would like to transfer property to another department; need to move furniture around in your office; need temporary relocation of furniture and equipment due to renovations; need to report stolen property; or to dispose of items you no longer need or want. Once the service is completed, we forward the information to our Property Records office. If you have questions on how to complete the form, or need to communicate additional information concerning a move, please contact Ginger McGeehan at mmcgeehan@towson.edu .
The MMSR requires that university property be identified by its "property tag number". If upon inspection, a "property tag number" cannot be found, a serial number (if available) will be required. All "electronics" have serial numbers. Most likely the property without a property tag number or a serial number will fall into the category of "furniture".
Office Moves and Renovations
If you are having new carpet installed or remodeling your office, include us in your plans early in the process. If you are moving "down the hall" or across campus, our friendly and experienced moving crew is available. The Office Moving Guide will help you prepare so that your move goes smoothly, and "down time" is minimized. Your plans should include decisions about property disposals that result from the renovation process.
Planning and Preparing
The Office Moving Guide provides start-to-finish helpful information to help you prepare for your department or office move without anxiety.
Property Transfers, Donations, and Disposals
If you would like to transfer property to another department, please follow the instructions on the MMSR . Unwanted, but useable property that is not recycled for campus use, may be donated to non-profit organizations by Materiel Managment. The MMSR directs that some indication be made in the comments section regarding the condition of materials marked for recycling/disposal. Inventoried (TU's numbered, bar-coded tag) property must be noted on the request, so that Property Records is alerted to update their records.
Surplus Property
While we do not have the facilities at the present time to store used property, we do maintain a wish list for those looking for a specific item. Please keep in mind that we cannot know when the item you want will become available, but if you are planning a purchase of office furniture, you may want to contact us - we just may have what you're looking for. We have recycled many useable items this way.
