Campus Master Plan

The proposed campus gateway along Towsontown Boulevard, as included in the 2009 master plan.Towson University’s 2009 campus master plan embodies our long-term vision for the future physical development of campus. Addressing both University System of Maryland requirements and community concerns, the plan sets forth a framework for the development of academic and student life facilities, as well as the roads, parking, utilities and infrastructure to support these buildings. Though encompassing our future physical landscape, the 2009 master plan is not purely architectural. Rather its framework, principles and recommendations were developed to support the university’s mission and its associated strategic initiatives. Toward this aim the plan establishes guiding principles for improving institutional image, creating a sense of arrival to campus, forming an identifiable campus that is connected to its larger community, and developing sustainable manmade and natural environments.

Master Plan Update

The campus master plan is updated on a five-year cycle.  The master plan updates confirm that the overall framework and long-term vision of the master plan still meets the university’s current and projected enrollment and program growth initiatives. The update also details and documents institutional changes that have occurred since the approval of the last master plan, such as the completion of new building, landscape, and infrastructure projects.

The university began updating the 2003 campus master plan in late 2008, and the final master plan update was approved by the University System of Maryland Board of Regents in October 2009. The complete 2009 campus master plan and executive summary are provided below along with documentation of the process and a summary of the input received from the campus and neighboring communities. The process was a collaborative and participatory effort involving both campus and community constituents. Thanks to every student, faculty, staff and community member who offered their feedback to help shape the updated plan.
