Towson University Campus Master Plan

About the Plan

Planning Process

Towson University engaged the firm of Ayers/Saint/Gross, a consultant that specializes in Higher Education master planning, to assist in the facilitation of the planning process and development of the new plan.   The planning process was undertaken in phases, beginning with a period of data gathering and analysis.   Through numerous meetings and workshops, the base needs of the campus were defined in terms of both the built and natural environments.   Following the data gathering, a series of workshops were held to develop planning principles.   These planning principles were used as a guide in formulating a concept plan that was presented as a framework for developing the master plan to the numerous on and off campus participants involved in the planning effort.   Using this framework, several two-day workshops involving both on and off campus stakeholders were held to discuss ideas about the physical development of the plan.   Following these workshops, a draft of the final plan and supporting design guidelines were completed and presented to on and off campus stakeholders for fine-tuning and finalization.
