Accounting Professor named Top CPA for third consecutive year

For the third year in a row, Seth Hammer, associate professor of accounting, has been named a Top Maryland CPA by Smart CEO-Baltimore magazine and, for the second year in a row, the only university or college professor to receive the honor. Hammer was recognized due to his leadership in the investment tax planning field, which is best noted through the impact of his books including CCH’s Taxes and Investments: A Practical Guide for Financial Advisors and Investment Tax Planning Guide, a revised edition of Taxes and Investments.

“It is gratifying to be recognized by my professional peers,” Hammer says. “Knowing that some of the publications that I have written have helped others in the field means a lot to me.”

Hammer first developed a passion for financial planning and taxes in the early '80s as he worked as a CPA for a regional firm in New York City. A certified management accountant, his articles have been featured in the Journal of Personal Finance, Journal of Retirement Planning, The Tax Adviser, and the CPA Journal. He is also a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the American Accounting Association, the Institute of Management Accountants and Toastmasters International.
