Study Groups
Success Teams provide academic support for general education courses, developmental reading and math. A SG (Study Group) is a task-oriented study system that requires students to employ active learning skills in a small group setting.
Students are encouraged to take a learning styles inventory to understand how they learn best.
More About Study Groups
- Each group consists of no more than seven students.
- Many students who participate in Success Teams are recommended by faculty, others are invited by the AAC based upon placement test results, and others self-select.
- The Success Teams program is unlike tutoring, in that students are expected to attend each session having completed any out-of-class assignments and group practice items for purpose of mastery.
- Students are aware that class attendance combined with commitment to regularly attend Success Team sessions is expected.
- Success Teams are designed to encourage collaborative and active learning. Our role is to model active student learning, which is demonstrated during the study groups.
- The AAC employs various techniques to foster learning within each group and encourages participants to share feedback.
