Study Groups/Success Teams

Success Teams provide academic support for general education courses, developmental reading and math. A SSG is a task-oriented study system that requires students to employ active learning skills in a small group setting.

Students are encouraged to take a learning styles inventory to understand how they learn best. A free online inventory is available at: http://www.howtolearn.com/lsinventory_student.html.

Each group consists of no more than seven students.
Many students who participate in Success Teams are recommended by faculty, others are invited by the AAC based upon placement test results, and others self-select.
The Success Teams program is unlike tutoring, in that students are expected to attend each session having completed any out-of-class assignments and group practice items for purpose of mastery.
Students are aware that class attendance combined with commitment to regularly attend Success Team sessions is expected.
Success Teams are designed to encourage collaborative and active learning. Our role is to model active student learning, which is demonstrated during the study groups.
The AAC employs various techniques to foster learning within each group and encourages participants to share feedback.
