TOPS at Towson
The goal for TOPS at TOWSON is to provide students with the support structure they need to succeed in their academic program and to enhance each student’s understanding of the range of career options available through the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) disciplines.
At Towson, the following departments and majors fall within STEM: Biology, Chemistry, Computer and Information Sciences, Environmental Science and Studies, MB3 (Molecular Biology, Biochemistry and Bioinformatics), Mathematics, and PAGS (Physics, Astronomy and Geosciences). Students from underserved communities in the Baltimore region who are interested in pursuing a major in one of these fields should consider applying to the program.
TOPS is a community of science students who share an interest in learning more about their career options and sharing what they know with others through peer mentoring. We can help you locate tutors for your challenging courses and facilitate study groups which are known to improve student success.
We sponsor seminars and field trips to introduce TOPS students to local employers and to meet with professionals who share your interest in STEM. We'll also help you find research opportunities on and off campus to help you decide whether you wish to pursue a research career. In addition, we help individual students locate resources on campus that will enable them to succeed.
