Saturday Morning Science Series

The Hackerman Academy's Saturday Morning Science Series, held on campus at Towson University, begins in January 2008. This series features presentations, performances and demonstrations that will excite the mind and spark the imagination of young and old. Targeted for students of all ages, the programs are designed to share the excitement of modern discoveries in mathematics and science.

Project DropShot

Project DropShot is a microgravity demonstration and experimentation program for middle and high school students. A small “free-fall” drop package has been developed that will create about one second of “zero-gravity” conditions during which microgravity demonstrations and experiments can be performed. This ongoing program will be conducted at the Phoenix Shot Tower located in downtown Baltimore. Built in the late 1800s, this drop tower was one of the first to create zero-gravity conditions in the manufacture of shotgun shot.

Hackerman Academy Science Program Series for Middle-Schoolers

The Hackerman Academy offers a series of full-day science programs on Saturdays designed for middle school students in the Baltimore area. These programs, held on- and off-campus, will focus on hands-on activities and inquiry-based learning and will cover various topics such as space, biology, chemistry, geology, fluids, and mathematics.

Science Presentations and Classroom Visits

Representatives of the Hackerman Academy visit area K-12 schools to offer presentations on the Space Shuttle program, science experiments performed in space and observing the Earth from space are made to local area elementary, middle and high schools.
